We all know the usual advice for mental health struggles. Deep breathing, journaling, going for a walk, exercising, etc. And hey, those are great. But sometimes the things that really help us get through a rough patch are a little less conventional.
So I thought it might be fun (and helpful) to start a thread where we share our go-to coping techniques. Especially the ones that sound kind of strange but somehow work.
Here are a few of mine:
The “Toilet Paper Pep Talk” – I give myself a motivational speech in the bathroom mirror while pretending to be on stage. The toilet paper audience never interrupts.
Tiny Dinosaur Walks – I go for a walk and imagine I’m a T-Rex trying to act normal in a human world. It’s ridiculous. It makes me laugh. And it gets me moving.
Sad Playlist, Happy Cleaning – I put on the most dramatic playlist I own and clean the house like I’m the main character in an emotional indie film. It helps.
What about you? What’s a coping strategy you use that might sound strange but actually helps you feel better? It doesn’t have to be quirky either—this is a space to share anything that works, vent if you need to, or just connect.
Looking forward to hearing your ideas and learning a few new tricks myself.
